In 2021, we need to think much more about the future in terms of accelerating climate change in our world and the growing number of extreme natural disasters in our environment. Unprecedented floods destroyed cities in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, but also in the English capital, London.
Settlements where the rainfall was so high that in just a few days the rains broke all records. The amount of rain that fell in four days was equivalent to the precipitation of a whole year in previous years. The destruction was so great that we have no words to describe it! Floods have claimed hundreds of lives, destroyed entire settlements, devastated hundreds of homes, and destroyed dozens of cars. They destroyed roads, we don't even know what adjectives to use for the mass destruction caused. They practically destroyed everything in their path. For example, in Germany, unfortunately, missing persons are still wanted.
The heat waves hit several countries so hard (temperatures between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius) that they caused devastating forest fires, which burned for days (see Antalya and its surroundings in Turkey, in Greece the vegetation has ignited in over ten places, including on the island of Rhodes, but also in Sicily, - or Bulgaria). Finland is also struggling with severe forest fires, so major that authorities have reported on the news that they have not experienced such a natural disaster in the last five hundred years. Hundreds of square kilometers of forest were destroyed and burned for two weeks.
If we cross the borders of a small Europe and talk about other geographical areas of the Earth, we are shocked to find that the multitude of natural disasters is multiplying and amplifying enormously (and we are still talking only about July 2021). Volcanic eruption (Sinabung volcano)) in Indonesia (July 28), an 8.2 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale in Alaska (July 28), and major floods in China, in several cities, but the worst was from July 20 in Chengdu City / Honan Province, where hundreds of thousands of people had to be evacuated due to heavy rains.
Where is the world going?
A problem that is almost impossible to answer! Mankind is responsible for everything, the destruction of the environment has been going on for decades around the world. This year (2021) has shown how fast the climate is changing. What was once a simple summer shower (which is otherwise typical at this time of year) turns into torrential rain for several days which in combination with the wind blowing at over 100 km/h, and we are already talking about natural disasters.
And if that's not enough, on the night of July 31, Mount Etna erupted. It erupted with the power of Hercules unseen for decades. The eruption was followed by a huge lava flow. Even the geological shape of the mountain has been altered by lava flow, as a small part of the mountain near the crater has collapsed. According to eyewitnesses, the lava flew so high that it caused a real lava rain, and the bright lava that flew strongly upwards was like fireworks.
Thousands of damaged cars, broken trees, landslides, horrific floods, devastating fires, golf ball-sized hailstones, large earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and thousands of dead souls. And all this in just one month, more precisely in July 2021! This month can easily go down in the record book, as well as the most devastating month of all time in terms of natural disasters.
What's next?
Dear reader, if you have passed through these lines, please think twice if you go to the forest for a hike, a trip, or even a walk, do not leave behind your mess. Do not leave behind decay that does not decompose! Especially not empty glass, or shards of glass, as they can work in the heat, like a magnifying glass, and the environment lights up in the blink of an eye. Do not fire closer than 100 meters from the forest and please do not smoke in the forest.
It has been speculated in both Turkey and some parts of Greece that arsonists (criminal hands) may have been involved in setting up these fires.
